Saddam's Bluff

Leave it to the Canadians to provide a scheme like this. Actually, I think it's a good one. First off, the article is right. Americans have themselves to blame for Iraq. Of course, the question is if Americans accept that responsibility. Do they want a president saying "It's your fault."?

This all started with the WMD threat that we have not been able to take care of. For one, nothing big was discovered to constitute an imminent threat. There also is a possibility that they were shipped to other countries. I do not view the idea of them being lost as being any better than if Iraq did not have them. Consider this idea that perhaps Saddam was just imposing fear. The region definitely is filled with hate-ridden psychologies. Following '91, the possibility does exist that he was just bluffing or pretending he had weapons.

Given that scenario, it's possibile that America only believed he had WMDs cause we had supplied the country with WMDs earlier. Since hadn't used them all, we had convinced ourselves that they had to still exist. Scenarios are fun to play out but it doesn't change the fact that the leaders of the world have come to this junction. January 30th will determine much of 2005.
