I Don't Blame Them

For the 9/11 Commission and the families of victims of the 9/11 attacks, I don't find it to be funny or unnecessary that they still want more. For the changes America has made are good, they are definitely not enough. In some ways, we haven't even taken care of the tip of the iceberg. National security, a widespread problem, won't be fixed in other countries like our government tends to think. It isn't just nuclear weapons that threaten our future (although those are not to be overlooked). Money or the economy, our intelligence gathering, and our air transportation are security threats. The dollar is falling and we are on the road to becoming a third-world country. People are flooding the states (Mexicans) to work for lower pay. This does nothing for our economy. Not to mention baby boomers are retiring and as a result, our social security is deeply in danger. Government programs that aid people are going to run out too. Intelligence gathering may have improved, but the Department of Homeland Security still has to consult 88 committees and subcommittees before really doing anything. This is not good. Air transportation is slowly becoming tough to maintain as layoffs and downsizing occur within companies. Companies are cutting back flights and the cost of flying is increasing. Something must be done. These three areas deserve attention. Government taking action and responding positively to the requests of the 9/11 commission and victim's families is a good start. There still is much more to be done.
